Organized in 1989, The Bruce Long Orchestra is a traditional 18 piece big band and one of the remaining few that does not play jazz. Although considered a form of jazz, swing is a separate musical style distinguished by its more rigid structure and catchy melodies. It was the dominant style of popular music in America from 1935-1945 and our repertoire is composed exclusively of musical arrangements from the era. From an initial pool of over 10,000 big band charts, the orchestra's 400+ tune library is the result of an ongoing vetting process designed to ensure that only arrangements with specific style parameters make their way to our audience. From lively jump numbers to haunting, sentimental ballads, The Bruce Long Orchestra covers it all. Experience the big band sound as it was originally intended; up close and in person!
